Halloween in Washington DC | The Adventures of D.L.

Halloween came and went, but not without making a big splash in DC.. Saturday night was insane with The House Tribe taking over Eden Rooftop, it was truly an amazing event that if you weren't there you seriously missed out! Every inch of the rooftop was packed with party goers in their most creative and down right crazy costumes. I'm gonna drop a massive video from the event so stay tuned for that, but for now I'll leave you with a little preview of the night..

And this was just from the DJ booth.. Wait till you see the rest!!!

Now lets get into the famous Halloween in Georgetown event... Every year during Halloween the streets and sidewalks of DC's famous Georgetown neighborhood get filled with people from all over the DMV to party, and parade their costumes down M street.. A few years ago i actually dressed up and joined in the festivities, but this year i wanted to just to take photos and enjoy all the people and their costumes. I must say Halloween in Georgetown never disappoints! hahah. Its just the one night where all the crazies come out to celebrate and just let loose. Now i must warn you, if you are claustrophobic then this might not be the event for you, it just gets extremely packed and its people everywhere!! This is the sort of event that makes me glad to be a photographer, just to many gems! haha.. Anyways enough chatter, lets get into the photos!

Hope everyone enjoyed!

Fotography Of The Day | People Series

If you love people watching, then this is the post for you!! haha.. A long time ago i started a People of the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia) series. Ive stated in the past that night photography is my favorite kind of photography, well i would have say that candid and street shots would have to be my second favorite. Since most of the time I'm harassing family and friends with my camera, i find that capturing moments of life at its most spontaneous is really refreshing and rewarding to me. Especially here in the tri-state area where there are so many people from so many different parts of the world that makes the DMV really the biggest melting pot in the U.S.

Here is a small sample from some of my DMV People Series photos.

All's Well That Ends Well | The Adventures of D.L.

... I meant to post this earlier in the week, but this post required me to really put alot of my thoughts into it.. Last Saturday night I went to see my first Shakespearean play with my sister. If you are slow to catch up, the play i went to see was "All's Well That Ends Well". When my sister first approached me about going to see the play i said yes without hesitation. My second thought was, "Holy crap what did i get myself into", I'm not much of a theater guy so i had no clue whether i would enjoy it or not, but like always, i said to myself that i would have an open mind to new things and experiences. Now i have to admit that other than the small snippets of info on the story that my sister told me, i had no clue what the story was about. This made it much more difficult to follow the old 1600's dialogue. Being this the first play Ive seen as an adult its a bit tough to compare it to anything else or grade it for that matter, but I'll do my best anyways. The one thing that bothered me was the fact that no pictures where allowed. I mean cmon! I'm a photographer, i love documenting events and things in my life with pictures. Either way i was still able to get a quick snap before the play got started, just so you guys don't think I'm bullshitting that i actual went to see a play haha.

(This is the only photo i was able to snap)

I found the acting to be quite entertaining. Seeing people acting in live form was a lot more interesting than i ever gave it credit to, but that does not mean it all was great acting. The character i most enjoyed was that of Parolles. Mostly because of the actors interpretation on the mannerisms of the character. Rather than making it feel stuffy, it gave the play a more relaxed and fun feeling. The character i leased liked was that of Betram. While he was the lead male role, it just felt like his timing was a bit off. It really gave the play a feeling of slowing down. On a different note, I did happen to enjoy the lead female role of Helena, i thought the actress did a superb job in expressing the sorrows and worries of the character. The other two female roles of Diana (the Italian love interest of Betram) and that of Countess of Rossillion (Mother of Betram) where quite entertaining. I really thought the Countess really made her presence felt every time she appeared, but the Diana character really took over during the Kings Court scene. Speaking of the King, that is another character that i felt was very intriguing as well as imposing. The way the other characters interacted with the King made you really take notice. There were a lot of other entertaining side characters that i enjoyed as well, but I'm not going to bore you with my thoughts about them, I'm sure that I've done enough of that already.

(Some photos from the play, this are the actual photos of some of the characters and actors of the play, photos were NOT taken by me)

My finals thought on the play are that for someone like me, who is not into theater whatsoever, this play really made me enjoy the experience. If you are like me ,it might be a bit tough to keep up with the play, but hang in there, it gets better the more it goes on. While the play does have its slow moments, the director makes sure to always throw some unexpected comedic jabs to keep you on your toes. All in all i give it a solid 7/10 and that's without any real knowledge of theater, its just all from the unbiased inexperienced eye of a amateur critic ;)

So now lets get to the question of that night.. "Will i ever want to see another play again". Answer: Yes very much so.. Hahah, who knew truly deep down i was a theater fan :) .. Many thanks to my sister as the idea to go see the play was hers.

Thanks for reading and hanging in there throughout all the boring chatter, hopefully you guys aren't only here for the pretty pictures and videos. But don't worry plenty of that to come soon as well!

Much Love

D.L. Films | A Halloween Promo

In keeping with the whole black and white theme of today, here is a short film i directed, produced and edited for a Halloween Party promo. I decided to go with the black and white to give it that more mysterious dark tone... Dont watch if you have heart problems hehe :)

Story to be continued....

Fotography Of The Day | Black and White Edition

... Black and White photography is not a medium I take advantage of. I love colors so black and white always takes a back seat, but I've come to realize that some of my favorite photos that I've taken happen to be B&W. I always tell myself that i should take a week to really photograph in complete B&W and learn contrast and light, i feel like it would be something to really help me find interesting shapes and pattern that might get lost in color, as well as make me work harder at photo composition..

Enough chatter and more photos!

Fotography Of The Day | DC at Nite Edition

Photographing at night is one of my favorite times to shoot. I find all the bright colors and lights of the night to be extremely visually stimulating. I really enjoy capturing and finding light from some of the most dark spaces in this world. When i go night shooting i really am in my own little world. I find it to be extremely relaxing, as well as a time of reflection. It helps me sort through the millions of things that are scrambled in my head, and it allows me to make sense out of all this organised noise.

I'm gonna be making future posts similar to this to showcase the beauty that is DC at night. We all know DC is a beautiful city during the day, but what i want to show is the magic that comes on once the sun has set, and the big bright lights of the city come on. All photos were taken by me all around Washington DC.

Transformers 3 Filming in DC.. Foto|Video

If you haven't been living under a rock then you know that Transformers 3 took over DC for a few days in October to shoot some scenes. Michael Bay brought his famous explosions as well as his famous super friends the Autobots, oh yea, and Shia Labeouf and Josh Duhamel were also there haha.
I decided to venture out on the 13th for an evening of shooting, and trying to catch some of the stars in action. Drove down to DC and started looking for the brightest most lit part of town. Remember, find the lights, find the movie set! It only took a few minutes to find the film set located at the Lincoln Memorial, but quickly i was bummed out to find out none of the famous explosions would be taking place that evening. Why do you ask? Well DC's Park and Recreation department does not allow any sort of pyrotechnics or fire near the parks surrounding the monuments, but because of that i was able to capture more of the acting and film making.
When i walked to the set the place was packed with onlookers and fans. They were filming a few specific scenes with Shia Labeouf and Josh Duhamel and what i suspect to be the military crew that follows Duhamel's character. It was quite a personal experience for me to see the filming process as well as the directing process of what it takes to make a movie.
I know I'm rambling alot now so I'm just gonna give you what you guys came to see. Below are some of the shots i took from from the film set as well as a short video. Enjoy everyone!!
